Rochester police are looking for help in locating a dog that bit a woman who was walking near Silver Lake on Monday morning. This, so that the woman can avoid getting rabies shots. The incident occurred at 11 a.m. Monday on the east side of Silver Lake, near the pavilion. A woman said she was walking and was bit by a young German shepherd with floppy ears. She said the dog was being walked by a heavyset man in his 40s, about 5-foot-11, wearing glasses, a green shirt and charcoal-colored pants. She said the man said that he doesn’t own the dog, and that he left when she went to get a pen and paper.

Anyone with information is asked to call Rochester Animal Control at 328-6960, Monday through Friday before 5 p.m. Otherwise, call the law-enforcement dispatch center at 328-6800.

Rabies shots by way of Mayo Clinic cost $1,200 per shot for the vaccine alone, and a typical series is five shots over two months.

Pawlenty signs Franken’s Senate election certificate

Filed under: Government, Politics — Breaking News @ 7:10 pm

The election certificate that once loomed so large in Minnesota’s U.S. Senate race has been signed with little fuss. Democrat Al Franken is headed to Washington after Republican Norm Coleman conceded the race. Coleman’s concession came today after the Minnesota Supreme Court rejected his lawsuit challenging results of a statewide recount.

Democrats had worried that Gov. Tim Pawlenty would refuse to sign the election certificate, which Franken needs to be seated. Pawlenty had said he would sign it if ordered by the court, but today’s decision said only that Franken was “entitled” to the document. Once Coleman conceded, Pawlenty signed the certificate early this evening and Secretary of State Mark Ritchie — a Democrat — added his signature soon after.

AP Exclusive: Jackson net worth $236M in 2007

Filed under: Business, General — Breaking News @ 6:01 pm

In the most detailed account yet of Michael Jackson’s tangled financial empire, documents obtained by The Associated Press show Jackson claimed to have a net worth of $236.6 million as of March 31, 2007. But less than $700,000 of that amount was in cash — a relatively paltry sum given his opulent lifestyle, prodigious borrowing and seven-figure shopping sprees.

The dollar amounts, which previously consisted of estimates, are crucial because Jackson’s estate is expected to become the focus of a legal battle between the singer’s family and creditors.
The revelation came today as Jackson’s family reversed itself and said the singer did in fact have a will — complicating a bid by Jackson’s mother to take control of her son’s finances.

Jackson had $567.6 million in assets, including his Neverland Ranch and his share of the Sony/ATV Music Publishing catalog, which includes the rights to songs by the Beatles, according to a statement of financial condition prepared by Washington, D.C.-based accounting firm Thompson, Cobb, Bazilio & Associates.
