Police in Richfield say a customer who was shot during a pawnshop robbery has died. The 33-year-old Minneapolis man was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center after the Monday evening robbery, and died later that night. Police have not released the victim’s name. An employee at Avi’s Pawn was grazed by a bullet during the shooting and treated for his injuries at the scene. No arrests have been made. Police say two robbers fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
One Hutchinson police officer is fired and another is suspended without pay after separate incidents that happened earlier this year while the officers were off-duty. Police Chief Dan Hatten says Officer Shelly Schmidt was a probationary officer and was told Friday that she was fired. Hatten says earlier this year, Schmidt was convicted of trespassing. She was a passenger in a vehicle that went into a field and caused damage to a new crop. Officer Jason Pederson was told today that he’ll be suspended without pay for 40 hours. Hatten says Pederson’s penalty stems from a criminal case in which Pederson violated policy by exhibiting conduct unbecoming a police officer.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick told a sparse crowd at a Washington, D.C., church that he regrets his decisions that led to prison time for running a dogfighting ring. Vick repeatedly called dogfighting “pointless” today and says he doesn’t know why he got so involved in it. He says he wants to be an example for change. The former Atlanta Falcons star served 18 months in prison for running the ring in Surry County, Va. The afternoon talk at Covenant Baptist Church, in one of the city’s poorest neighborhoods, was sponsored by the Humane Society of the United States. Vick has been working with the group since his release from prison this summer.
Power has been restored to the Rochester Public Utilities service center, which lost power and phone service at about 2:15 p.m., said RPU spokesman Tony Benson. The outage was reportedly caused by a crew working outside of the building that hit a primary cable serving the facility. No other buildings were affected by the outage, he said.
The company’s board meeting scheduled at 4 p.m. at the service center will still be held.
Edwin Henry White, 25, of Byron, will serve at least 12 years behind bars for the death of his of daughter Carlee Jade White on May 14. She was 2 1/2 months old.

Rescuers pulled more bodies from swollen rivers and debris-strewn streets to bring the death toll in massive flooding in the northern Philippines to 240 as residents dug out their homes from under carpets of mud. The National Disaster Coordinating Council said today the homes of nearly 1.9 million people in the capital and surrounding areas were inundated, with nearly 380,000 people brought to schools, churches and other evacuation centers. Overwhelmed officials have called for international help, warning they may not have sufficient resources to withstand another storm that forecasters say is brewing east of the island nation and could hit as early as Friday.
A 20-year-old man has died in an ATV rollover in northern Minnesota. Hubbard County Sheriff Frank Homer says Corey Benedix was going west on County Road 93 near Hendrickson Township on Sunday evening when the ATV rolled, and he was thrown onto the roadway. Homer says Benedix suffered severe head trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The scheduled game between the Minnesota Twins and Detroit Tigers has been postponed because of rain. Locked in a tight race for the AL Central title, the teams were supposed to begin a four-game series tonight that could decide the division crown. Instead, the opener will be made up Tuesday as part of a day-night doubleheader. The first game will start at 11:05 a.m., with the nightcap at 6:05 p.m. Detroit leads the AL Central by two games over Minnesota. Nick Blackburn (11-11, 4.18 ERA) was slated to start tonight for the Twins against Tigers rookie Rick Porcello (14-9, 4.14).
Twins-Tigers baseball game postponed due to rain
The coach of the Winona Senior High School gymnastics team has quit his job after he was caught allegedly peeping into a window to take pictures of semi-nude women Friday morning, according to an Associated Press report.
Winona police said it appeared the coach was caught on the roof of his ex-girlfriend’s house.

Due to an overwhelming response from the public, Olmsted County Public Health is currently out of the seasonal influenza vaccine and scheduled clinics on Monday afternoon and Tuesday have been canceled.
Another shipment of vaccine is expected in the next 3 weeks, said a county press release. Additional clinics will be scheduled at that time.
