Ambulance crashes en route to accident; two injured

Filed under: Traffic accident — Breaking News @ 6:18 pm

An ambulance en route to an accident in north Rochester was struck by a car in downtown Rochester. Two people were injured and transported to the hospital.

The ambulance was westbound on Second Street and Third Avenue Southwest when it was struck by a car northbound on Third Avenue.

Police said the ambulance had its lights and siren activated when it entered the intersection, but the light was red. The car entered the intersection and struck the ambulance. Two other cars were then struck after the initial collision, police at the scene said.

Two people were extricated from two separate vehicles by firefighters and taken to the hospital.

The ambulance was headed to a car-school bus crash on north U.S. 63 about 5:40 p.m. Injuries were reported at that collision as well and a medical helicopter transported those people.
