Officials still seek info on baby found in river

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Investigators still need help finding the parents of a baby girl whose body was found in the Mississippi River near Winona last Labor Day.

The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says Thursday that an autopsy did not show how the baby died, but did provide DNA.

BCA Senior Special Agent Drew Evans says investigators hope the DNA will lead to the baby’s parents. Authorities want to talk to them about what happened and how the baby ended up in the river, wrapped with items including angel figurines.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Winona County Sheriff’s Office tip line at (507) 457-6530. Callers can remain anonymous.

The Winona County Sheriff’s Office is holding a funeral for the girl at 1 p.m. Saturday, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Winona.
