Report: Twin Cities air reaches dangerous levels

Filed under: State — Breaking News @ 10:02 am

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The American Lung Association says air in the Twin Cities has gotten so dirty it might violate federal health standards.

Ramsey County got an “F” for the first time since the Lung Association began compiling the annual report.

The Star Tribune (http://bit.ly/K3xHWF) reports Hennepin County and other metro counties fared about the same as last year. But those counties also experienced several days with high levels of particulate matter in the air.

State pollution officials say Twin Cities air quality has been declining and this summer could routinely reach levels considered unhealthy by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The particulate matter is coming from leaf blowers, generators, auto shops, light industry and cars. The dirty air could lead to more health problems for Twin Cities residents.
