ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A Hutchinson woman is accused of trying to suffocate her 5-month-old baby in a St. Paul hospital.
Prosecutors charged 24-year-old Katie Elaine Lewis on Friday with assault, child endangerment and domestic assault by strangulation.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports (http://bit.ly/JZcEJm) she allegedly pinched the baby’s nose closed while covering his nose and mouth. The boy kicked frantically then went limp. Her actions Wednesday were caught on video at Children’s Hospital.
Ramsey County Attorney John Choi says a hospital staffer stopped the assault, and the infant is now in good condition.
The complaint says Lewis told police she did the same thing at another hospital last month, but denied doing it other times when she says the boy stopped breathing.
