BEMIDJI, Minn. — A 21-year-old woman is facing criminal charges in Beltrami County after her four children were left in a sweltering car in a Target parking lot.
A criminal complaint says Bianca Hazelrigg went shopping for swimsuits while the children were left in the car with the windows rolled up last Saturday. The outside temperature was 88 degrees at the time.
Someone who spotted the children called police. Officer found two 2-year-olds and a 4-year-old inside the car, while a 7-year-old was playing outside the vehicle. Court documents say Hazelrigg was in the store about 30 minutes.
The Bemidji Pioneer (http://bit.ly/MLqfUT ) says Hazelrigg appeared in court Tuesday afternoon when she told the judge through tears that she would never harm her children. They have been placed in protective custody.
Police and firefighters are responding to a report of a multi-vehicle crash on northbound U.S. 52 at 16th Street Southwest, near Apache Mall.
Initial scanner reports said a motorcyclist was down and injured.
Some lanes are blocked.

ROSEVILLE, Minn. — Police say one person is dead following a collision between a school bus and SUV in Roseville on Wednesday morning.
Authorities say no children were on the bus when it crashed on county Road B2. A photo of the crash scene shows the SUV on the wrong side of the road.

ST. PAUL, Minn. — A Minnesota man remained hospitalized in critical condition Wednesday following surgery to remove a fireworks explosive from his chest.
Regions Hospital spokeswoman Annelise Searle in St. Paul says the police bomb squad was summoned to the operating room as surgeons worked on Nick Beheng. Doctors found an unexploded fireworks device lodged in his chest.
The Anoka County Sheriff’s Department says the 31-year-old Linwood Township suffered massive chest injuries Saturday when he used a hand-held metal mortar tube to launch two rockets. The first rocket went off as planned. The second blew out the bottom of the tube and injured Beheng.

Rochester police and ambulance personnel responded to a two-vehicle crash on Country Club Road West at 60th Avenue at about 5:15 p.m. today.
Scanner reports stated that five people were injured, three of them children. All of the injuries were minor.
Four of the people were transported from the scene by Gold Cross Ambulance. A Mayo Clinic helicopter auto-launched after the crash, but it was canceled by police a short time later because the injuries were not life-threatening.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A 4-year-old St. Paul boy is in critical condition after a motorcyclist hit him and fled.
St. Paul Police spokesman Howie Padilla said the child and his family were preparing to go to a birthday party for him when he was struck by the motorcyclist around 1 p.m. Saturday.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports (http://bit.ly/Jf7JUx ) the boy was taken to Regions Hospital where he was in critical condition Saturday.
No arrests have been made.
