Dreaming of a white Thanksgiving?

If you like snow on the ground for Thanksgiving, you might get it this year — though I wouldn’t hold my breath.

There’s a chance of snow on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week (Thanksgiving is on Thursday). But the chances are 40 percent or lower in all three cases, and the temps will at times reach the high 30s and possibly low 40s, according to the National Weather Service.

Meanwhile, we’re looking at partly sunny skies Saturday and a 30 percent chance of rain Sunday, with temps in the low 50s.

Rain likely Wednesday evening in Rochester area

The National Weather Service says that the chance of rain on Wednesday is 20 percent, then 60 percent in the Wednesday evening. The high temp on Wednesday is 45 degrees.  No snow in the forecast through early next week. Yes, it really is November in Minnesota.

The National Weather Service’s forecast Friday night calls for rain overnight (70 percent chance) and on Saturday (60 percent chance), with a high near 46 degrees. Then on Sunday it’s supposed to be sunny, with a high near 47, and sunny again on Monday, with a high near 46. Enjoy.

100% chance of rain Thursday afternoon

The National Weather Service says the chance of rain on Thursday afternoon in the Rochester area is 100 percent, and there’s a chance of thunderstorms. New rainfall amounts of up to a half inch are possible. High temp is 57 degrees, with wind gusts as 28 mph. And the rain is likely (90 percent chance) on Thursday evening, with up to a quarter inch of rain, and possible thunderstorms.

Chance of rain on Friday drops to 20 percent.

Neki strengthens to Category 3 hurricane in Pacific

Forecasters say Neki has strengthened to a Category 3 hurricane far from land in Pacific, with top winds near 115 mph. This afternoon, Hurricane Neki was centered about 620 miles west-southwest of Honolulu and about 410 miles south of French Frigate Shoals. A hurricane warning has been issued for part of the Papahanaumokuakea National Monument, a marine conservation area northwest of Hawaii.

Forecasters predicted Neki would probably pass wide of tiny Johnston Island. A tropical storm watch was discontinued for the island. The uninhabited island, which is part of the isolated Johnston Atoll, is under the primary jurisdiction and control of the U.S. Air Force. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has a national wildlife refuge there.

Snow and rain Thursday, but weekend looks clear

The chance of rain and snow — becoming all rain after 1 p.m. — is 90 percent on Thursday, with a low temp around 35 degrees. Snow accumulation is likely to be a half inch. Chance of precipitation on Friday is 50 percent, but Saturday and Sunday are expected to be partly sunny with temps in the high 40s and 50s.

More electrical problems reported

Firefighters and utility workers are headed to U.S. 52 and South Broadway (U.S. 63) for a report of a power transformer smoking.

It’s just the latest in a series of reports of power outages and transformer problems, much related to today’s light, but wet snow.

Power outage in Elton Hills neighborhood

Power has been reported out in the Elton Hills neighborhood in northwest Rochester.

Rochester Public Utilities crews are investigating. RPU said 2,200 house are affected.

It was caused by trees falling on power lines, RPU says.
