Frank, Please explain the immediate benefits that will be available once this bill passes. Will those without insurance be covered as soon as the president signes the bill?
03/16/2010 11:29 AMTell me Lnelson, what was the population of Rochester 20 years ago. Do you think the increase in population might have something to do with the change in the air index. I would guess that a change in how the air quality index is calculated, where they sample the air and any other number of factors might explain the increase.
Also can you say for certain that air quality is the reason there are more asthmatics or could it be there is the same number percentage wise given the increase in the population of the US.
I don’t think anybody has said that they are against alternative forms of energy. What they are trying to say is the alternative forms are not ready for mass consumption yet.
So J-Man, you can say with a straight face that the state can be more efficient in providing basic services that the many professional charity organizations that exist in the state.
I have worked at at United Way supported activity and I know for certain that the service that we provided cost a heck of a lot less and delivered more than the same state service.
Creating multiple layers of state bureaucracy is not and efficient way to deliver needed services. I would rather see the state hand over half of the dollars currently spent on welfare type programs to the various charitable organization across the state.
02/26/2010 2:13 PMMrs C, Just because someone thinks that the state should not be responsible for people from the cradle to the grave doesn’t mean that they don’t care about those who are less fortunate.
I happen to think that there are a number of charities that can provide basic services to those in need better than the government can.
My Church/United Way donations go to a number of deserving organizations that can provide better and cheaper service than the government.
Maybe if the government reduced their footprint in the welfare business and reduced my taxes accordingly I might have even more to give.
02/26/2010 1:04 PMFrank, I am going to ask this question again.
If this current legislation is so great why didn’t it pass last year. The Democrats owned the House, Senate and Presidency and it still didn’t pass. You can call the Republicans the party of No all you want but they were powerless to stop the bill from passing.
I would think that even you could admit that if a number of Democrats don’t like this legislation that it might be time to go back to the drawing board and craft a piece of legislation that everyone would be comfortable with.
A 2000 page bill that no one can explain is not the “reform” that we are looking for.
