    Balance,
Of course every manufacturing process has some waste.  And so does every mining or drilling process.  Not sure what your point is about recycling batteries.  The lead is the highest proportion of the battery by weight and it’s 100% recycleable.

What battery waste?  Sealed lead-acid batteries are easily recycled, as are other types of batteries.  Lead-acid are relatively cheap and the technology is getting better.  They even have special caps so the hydrogen that’s bubbled off during charging is converted back to water (ok...those are kinda pricey).

We also need to reduce consumption.  Geothermal could be utilized in refrigeration as easily as it’s used in home heating/cooling.  Instead of cooling the fridge with room temperature air and venting even warmer air into the house and increasing your AC costs, cool it with 45-50 degree water and vent nothing.  Geothermal can also be used for a clothes dryer (already being done).

And to combat the problem with Solar/Wind not being 100% available, homes could easily be fitted with already existing battery technolgy.  When the sun is shining and wind blowing, the batteries charge.  At night or when it’s calm, (or during a blackout), the batteries are there; no blackout for the home.

The battery systems are a little pricey, but I bet the electric company would be willing to offer lower rates (like they do for Geothermal systems) because they could switch you off during peak power times.

    Mr. Nasby,
You’ve taken some time to think out-of-the-box, and you’re rewarded with trite responses from both sides.

I for one find it refreshing to see good ideas posted, regardless of the naysayers.

    Keep it up.

  • Bob Ray Sanders: When religious zeal displaces the truth in history books

    Atilla,
Agree with your comments, but how do we reconcile that with John 14:6? I’d like to think there’s room for both beliefs.  Waiting for Pirate’s opinion too.
