  • Dodge County investigator has handled three murders

Hats off to Mr. Gunderson!  It’s apparent he did a very good job.  I wonder if he would be interested in coming over to Olmsted county where it seems like murders get off very easy.

  • Editorial: Minnesota Vikings departure is counting down

One more point in favor of keeping the Vikings in town.  Many former players continue to live in the Metro area and add to their communities greatly.  I remember a young rookie back in the 80’s who didn’t want to come to MN because we didn’t have any good discos.  Well guess what, Disco Darren Nelson came to play for the Vikings in the 80’s and has never left!  I don’t know the statistics of former players staying, but I think it a high percentage and a great benefit to MN.

The Vikings are the pride of the state, both as a business and as a professional sports team.  Unfortunately, it seems like all businesses lately, not just professional sports teams, require some sort of government hand out to “do business” in your town or state.  Pawlenty has his “tax free zones” for businesses in town like Mayo-for-profit.  Northwest took many payouts before leaving.  It seems like in Rochester we want state money to add to this and that for “business” reasons.  Let’s take it a step further and pay to keep the Vikes.  It will be a good investment that will pay off in many ways over the next fifty years.

  • Coming up: Dodge County pays price for murders

It might cost Dodge county a lot of money to try the murder cases, but at least they provide justice.  In Olmsted county, they let thugs with guns get off on sweat-heart plea deals.  I think there should be an article comparing Dodge countie’s murders and the end result with the Olmsted county murders and their end result.  I think that would be a very interesting story.  I think there were three life sentences in Dodge county and the two thugs in Olmsted got off with about twelve years after running from the police.

  • Improvement for Rochester schools might sit in core curriculum

I agree with Atilla that the money spent on efficacy might be a waste.  However, I’m not certain that spending millions of dollars on core knowledge will solve the problem either.  Washington is a choice school where active parents need to plan ahead to get their children in that school.  Since Washington attracts student with parents who are that involved, I’m not sure if core knowledge is the reason for its success-it could be because of parental involvement.  I’m no saying it’s a bad curriculum, I’m just not sure it’s worth spending millions of dollars on for the whole district- especially in these tough economic times.

  • Editorial: Would deposit law clean up Minnesota?

Right now I recycle 100% because it’s easy and I really don’ like to save the aluminum cans in my garage.  So, how does this work?  Would I and everyone in Rochester have to haul our own garbage and to where?  WOuld there be several “deposit centers”.

How much gas would be wasted with all these people driving around to get rid of a few cans or bottles?  I think it might be more wasteful in the end by creating more people burning more fossil fuels.
